Breastfeeding

Breastfeeding is a hot topic for new mothers, as busy schedules, cost of formula, and nutrition are just a few of the factors that play into the decision to breastfeed or use formula.

According to peer-reviewed research, there is an advantage to breastfeeding over manufactured formula. A woman’s body is able to architect the ideal formula for the baby that it produced. Breast milk contains antibodies that help the baby’s immune system fight off illnesses. Additionally, babies that breastfeed are less likely to develop asthma, obesity, and lower respiratory infections, just to name a few. Additionally, mothers are also at a lower risk of developing Type 2 diabetes, some types of breast cancer, and ovarian cancer.

Many mothers are often working and on-the-go, so breastfeeding can be time consuming and not practical for their busy schedule. However, there are ways to help combat this common concern through pumping milk and storing it for later. The websites at the bottom of this post contain more helpful information on tips of pumping milk and milk storage.

Breastfeeding saves money that would be spent on formula. Additionally, in light of the health benefits to both the child and mother, you can be saving money on healthcare down the road. According to the CDC, the US nationwide cost per year for women that do not breastfeed is $3 billion.
